Not only did we raise nearly all of the money we were looking for to Send The Ranger To Camp, We met some big horror fans who gave us some great reviews.

The Ranger choking random fans at the screening in Sydney, Nova Scotia

Fan Review: Being a huge fan and critic of horror films, this movie hit every mark. A very well rounded and executed storyline. An instant classic!

- Completely unbiased review from the director’s good friend Chris Townsend (also in that picture above)

Ok so maybe that review was a little bit biased – but when people hear that we only had $50,000 to film this entire movie, they go ape-shit, they TOTALLY flip.

Michael Bay spends more than that on plastic forks when he makes a movie! If we could film this on 50k, imagine what we could do with a real budget!

REVIEWS:

In the mean while, here are a few of the notes we’ve been sent by people in attendance:

Amazing. Congrats all involved on a fantastic throwback to 80s horror. I bow to all in awe.

-Matt Boyd, a guy that saw it.

Anyone have 2 tickets for the show tonight??

-Jimmy Rankin, a local fiddler/singer who wanted to see it.

If you’re looking for a refreshing break from all the cookie cutter movies that are being pumped out from Hollywood, look no further then The Legend of The Psychotic Forrest Ranger! From the opening scene to the closing credits, this movie provides the perfect blend of Horror and Comedy. Complete with some memorable catch phrases, one liners, and of course some blood and gore. This movie is Defiantly deemed worthy of an instant Cult Classic film.

-Adam Marks, a random person not affiliated with anyone, who actually liked it.

The entire movie is one giant wink at the audience, and in some places, it can get a little annoying. The “teenage” actors, for example, deliver every line in a way that made me expect them to turn around and look at me to see if I was laughing.

-Katrina Nicholson, a person who didn’t particularly like the movie.

best movie i ever saw!!!

-The director’s 14 year old newphew Michael Donovan

THAT MOVIE WAS INSANE LOVED IT!!! The ranger better return!!

-Sean MacIntyre, a guy who wants to see more.

I just wanted to say congrats on the film, absolute success and can see a cult following forming (myself included)!!!! Cheers on the success, you deserve it!!!

-Ashley Burke, winner of 2 free tickets

BIO:

Full of plot holes & cheesy dialogue, The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger is a B horror movie straight out of the 80s. After taking a wrong turn down an abandoned road, the Jock, the Joker, the Blond Bimbo & the Paranoid Brunette run out of gas and find themselves stranded in the middle of the woods. What a total drag. What was that noise? Why is everyone vanishing? Is it all one of Bradley’s dumb practical jokes, or could The Legend be true? Your compass can’t help you in these woods.

From Nova Scotia brother/sister filmmaking duo Brad Mills and Jacquelyn Mills comes one of the best horror films of 2011The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger, an unforgiving campy throwback to the B teen horror flicks of the 1980s.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger is a feature length horror comedy which was filmed entirely in Cape Breton & features a Cape Breton cast! Now we’re coming to Sydney for a Cast & Crew Midnight Screening!

Admission cost is $15, we know this is higher than regular movie ticket, but we need your support to help us raise $7500 to get wide distribution. So come out to show your support for local filmmakers and help send The Ranger To Camp!

Cape Breton Post reporter Ken Chisholm spoke with filmmakers Brad and Jacquelyn Mills of Cape Breton who returned home to make their first feature length movie, “The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger.” Brad studied comedy writing and performing in Toronto and Jacquelyn attended the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal.

She graduated with distinction and her short film, “For Wendy,” took the school’s top prize for a 35mm-blowup. It was also awarded best cinematography by the Toronto International Film Festival Group, and played on Air Canada flights. “The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger” was three years in development and included a fundraising campaign on Facebook, as well as the timely donation of a location courtesy of a local resort.

CBC VIDEO INTERVIEW:

The film is a parody/homage to the slasher horror flicks of the 1980s as a group of young partiers are picked off one by one by the title character. All of the cast and most of the crew were from the island and, from reports of friends who were there, everyone had a grand time making the movie. Now the Mills siblings are bringing their film to Sydney for two midnight screenings (11:59 p.m. to exact) at the Empire Cinemas Studio Ten on Wednesday and Saturday, Aug. 20. Check out of of the best horror movies of 2011.

The $15 ticket price, in the true spirit of indie filmmaking, is to raise funds to get the film wider distribution. Tickets for the Sydney screenings are available at Mary Janes, Ollie Around and Flavor Restaurant in all in downtown Sydney. At the showing, audience members will get to meet the Psychotic Forest Ranger, socialize with the cast and crew, and participate in a question and answer session.

Screenings have also been scheduled for Halifax on Thursday, Sept. 22, London, Ont., on Friday, Sept. 30, at Rainbow Cinemas, and Montreal, Quebec, on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Film is going to be entered into the Atlantic Film Festival. Good luck to the cast and crew in Halifax!

The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger – Nearing completion of Post Production

May 3, 2011

From Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Brad Mills grew up watching classic cheesy horror films of the late 80s and early 90s like Halloween, Psycho Cop, Sleepaway Camp and Troll 2. As a young and impressionable aspiring filmmaker, Mills turned to these cult classics for the answers to life’s big questions such as “What was that [...]
